I'll bet there's a few on here that could win the bad sex in real life award!

Stephen King himself makes a cameo appearance in all the films/tv shows made from his books. Weird looking bloke too.

Dean Koontz is better

Has great plots for some of his books but he's an awful writer really. Think he's won the Bad Sex in Literature award a couple of times.

Thinner was one of the Richard Bachman books

Stranger Things on Netflix has Stephen King all over it The Duffer Brothers must be another one of his identities! There's even a nod to King in it with one of the cops reading one of his books!

Really good show!

I have vague memories of watching The Stand 2 parter in my youth and failing to take it seriously as the bad guy looked like Russ Abbott.

Re: Stephen King's IT
Anyone read 'Thinner'? Written using a pseudenum, was more a black comedy than horror. Blimey, some of these go back more than 25 years.

The Cell is an absolute dog of a film

I assumed they chopped the book to pieces and made a right dogs dinner, good cast wasted!

Need a remake of the stand!

The Mr Mercedes trilogy would make a good tv series!

Re: Stephen King's IT
As mentioned, Talisman is a superb book but the ending just seems to fade badly. Cell has been made into a film but reviews are poor, but the book is ok...Mr Mercedes works and I have just started Finders Keepers......Tommyknockers was a good read too and Christine was up there with some of his best work in my opinion.

The bloke is a genius.

You may have noticed when you read The Talisman that the small print said the book's film rights were bought by Steven Spielberg back when the book came out. I'm still waiting, but he's one that could do a good job with it, if he fancies directing it.

I've often said that. Mind you, sometimes I think it's because he is so good at building things up, that the resolution of the story almost HAS to be an anti-climax.

Re: Stephen King's IT
If you can meet King, it doesn't take much to buy the rights. He generally sells for $1 but it's convincing him you're worthwhile. He has a good relationship with Darabont and some others.
He's had his books messed up by many a cheap adaptation and, in more recent years, has shown a little more care in the choices he makes. He also seems to want a little more control. The Dark Tower series coming up should be a marker for what to expect.

Frank Darabont secured movie rights for the Long Walk a while ago but hasn't started the movie yet

I've always thought The Long Walk would be a great movie.

Thought I saw something about Cell being made into a movie or mini-series or something as well.

If it's true to the book, that could be done well.

Same with Duma Key.

Re: Stephen King's IT
In posterity, I'm sure King will be seen as one of the greats of the genre alongside Lovecraft and Poe at the very least. His non horror literature is also up there.

Lily Hammer 1:08 Wed Aug 31
Re: Stephen King's IT
Written originally in his freshman college year, and published under the name Richard Bachman, is "The Long Walk" One of his best pieces. They never did make a movie, and it wouldn't take loads of special effects, but it would take lots of young and very good actors.

Also under the same name, he wrote "The Running Man" Forget the piece of shit Arnie movie, the book is 100 times better. They should have done the film the same way, but they raped every good concept in it.

Re: Stephen King's IT
All depends on the books.
Insomnia is excellent.
His new trilogy Mr Mercedes were pretty good, though the ending was a little familiar in tone.
Enjoyed Revival, though it did indeed tail off a bit.
